Muer, George -- Monday. George Muer, well known throughout the city and county, sustained a hemorrhage at his home on North Mulberry Street yesterday morning and died within ten minutes from the loss of blood. Mr. Muer was about 45 years old and was engaged in the horse training business in this city. Mull, ---- -- The 4-year-old child of Mr. & Mrs. G.A. Mull died this afternoon at its home, 68 West Johns Street. The family were flooded out during the late flood and the child was taken ill with scarlet fever. The remains will be taken at noon Friday to Big Prairie for burial. [Mansfield News: 03 August 1899]

Mull, Christian -- Christian Mull, a farmer near Lexington, this county, committed suicide on Monday afternoon last. While his wife was absent at Lexington for some marketing or groceries, which he urged her to do, he procured a rope and going a mile from his residence he climbed into a tree and attached one end of the rope to a limb about fifteen feet above the ground and the other around his neck, and jumped off. He has been in bad health, and it is supposed the deed was done while laboring under temporary insanity. He leaves a wife and two children. About two years ago his brother drowned himself in the Clear Fork creek near Lexington, under an aberration of mind. [Richland Shield & Banner: 10 April 1875]
Mull, Dora (Myers) -- Monday. Mrs. John E. Mull, nee Dora Myers, of 53 West Johns Street, died at her residence at 6:20 last evening of heart trouble and dropsy, aged 24 years, 8 months and 17 days. The funeral services will be held from the residence Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, Rev. D.W. Smith officiating. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran church and leaves a husband and one child and a host of friends to mourn her departure. Mull, George -- George Mull, formerly of this city, and well known here, died Saturday morning at Lima as the result of injuries sustained by a fall from a train. He has been working on the Erie as a fireman and made his headquarters at Galion. He fell from the train on which he was firing. He leaves a wife and family. The remains have been brought to Galion, where the funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00. Some of his friends here expect to attend. Mull, George -- George Mull, formerly of the vicinity of Lexington, who has been firing on an Erie freight engine for a number of years, fell from his train near Lima Saturday and was instantly killed. Mundle, Thomas -- We learn that a Mr. Thomas Mundle, of Sharon tp., met with a sudden death on Friday last, from having descended into a well without having first tried the air below its surface; upon reaching near the bottom, he was so overpowered as not to be able to give the alarm, and died almost instantly. Murphy, John -- John Murphy, who has been a resident of this county a large part of his life, died at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon at his home, five miles southwest of the city. A couple of years ago he was stricken with paralysis and a second stroke was sustained recently resulting in his death. He was a retired farmer and was well known throughout the county. He was 81 years of age and leaves a wife, two sons, K.C. Murphy of near Johnsville, and O.P. Murphy, who lives six miles southwest of Mansfield; and five daughters -- Mrs. Madison Post who lives west of the city; Mrs. M.G. Jackson, of East First street; Mrs. Emma Seward of Poplar street; Mrs. Alice Lantz and Mrs. Frank Murphy, who reside at the homestead. Murphy, Maria -- Tuesday. Miss Maria Murphy, aged about 40, died at her home at 106 West Bloom Street, yesterday. The deceased had been suffering for some time with cancer of the stomach. Murphy received a telegram from their son, Harry, who for several years has been located at Los Angeles, Calif., announcing the death of his wife, which occurred Sunday evening, Jan. 11, at 10:40 o'clock at the Ptotinger Sanitarium at Monroia [sic.], of which institution she had been a patient for the past three months. Murray, Florence -- An awful accident occurred in Butler Twp. Friday afternoon, and little Flornce, the 5-year-old daughter of Joseph Murray, lost her life. The child and her 11-year-old brother were playing with burning "cattails" and the little girl's clothing became ignited. Before aid could be summoned all her clothing was burned. Murray, Thomas G. -- Lexington. Comrade Thomas G. Murray, of Conger Post, G.A.R., of Lexington, has responded to the last drum tap, the last wild inspiring call of the bugle. He died Tuesday night and Thursday he was laid to rest in the Lexington Cemetery among many comrades with whom he had ----- around the campfire, whose memory he so revered, whose deeds were --- consecrated in his heart. The wind of winter now howl sad requiems over the graves of 46 of his comrades of the civil war in the cemetery here --- soon all will have heard the last reveille. Services were held at the house at 1 o'clock, the Rev. Mr. Meese of Mansfield, officiating. Mr. Murray was born in Washington County, Pa., and was 63 years old and had lived in Lexington 38 years. He was never married. He was an elder of the Presbyterian church and was a man of culture and intelligence. Muscroft, S.J. -- MUSCROFT -- At his home near Mansfield, January 2d., 1884, S.J. Muscroft, author of Drummer Boy of Shiloh, aged 45 years. The subject of this sketch was of English parentage and was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, January 19th., 1838. Death removed his parents when he was at the tender age of 4 years, leaving him to be nurtured and cared for by relatives. The child growing into boyhood, soon manifested a courageous spirit. His self-reliance and determination grew with age. Having soon acquired habits of industry and thrift he was always self-supporting. As a soldier, he enlisted at Mansfield, August 6th., 1862, in Co. B., 102d. O.V.I., serving with credit and distinction in several battles, the hardships of a soldier's life soon told on his health -- being sent to Athens, he was captured by Gen. Forrest and sent with other sick comrades to Cahawba, Miss., where suffering the hardships of a prison for 9 months, he was exchanged at Vicksburg. Mr. Muscroft was widely known as the author of "The Drummer Boy of Shiloh". His fertile brain and sympathetic heart doubtless caught inspiration from the pathetic story of the finding of the little drummer boy on Shiloh's field, his tender care by little innocent hands, &c. which, coupled with his own experiences and hardships, his genius wove into the beautiful and pathetic drama of the "Drummer Boy of Shiloh" performed and appreciated all over the land. Mr. Muscroft was married to Mrs. E. Baker, daughter of John Hull, Sr., May 17th., 1875, the issue of said union belong three daughters, who survive him and mourn the departure of a kind and affectionate husband and indulgent father. That he had talent and genius none will gainsay. Of a kind and generous nature, he was always more ready to give than receive. His charity was boundless as his fidelity and integrity were tried and true, which qualities of head and heart far outshone his faults which were but human. His death was not wholly unexpected by his neighbors and friends, who so kindly and willingly nursed him through a long and painful sickness, which he bore with a calm and Christian fortitude so meekly. His requests were fully carried out, his remains being escorted to the Episcopal Church, after appropriate and impressive remarks, were made by Rev. Dr. Doolittle, Venus Lodge of the Masons, of which he was a worthy member, took charge and buried him according to the beautiful ritual of that Order. The deceased was also a member of the Knights of Honor and of the Grand Army of the Republic, which latter organization paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of their deceased comrade by turning out a large escort to the cemetery in very inclement weather. Thus have we buried our Brother, comrade and friend. Farewell. As we drop the sympathetic tear we also deposit another flower on thy new made grave. Muscroft, S.J. -- The funeral of Mr. S.J. Muscroft, late of the 102d. O.V.I. and widely known as the author of the military drama of "The Drummer Boy of Shiloh", which, under his personal management was produced throughout the country, took place on Sunday afternoon at 2:00. The remains were conveyed from his late residence to Grace Episcopal Church, where a funeral discourse was preached by the Rector, Dr. S.A. Bronson. After their services they were escorted to their final resting place by his comrades of the G.A.R. and Venus Lodge, No. 152, F. and A.M., of which he was also a member, and by whom the services at the cemetery were conducted. Mutersbaugh, Catherine -- Mother of City Relief Clerk Succumbs Here -- Mrs. Catherine Mutersbaugh, 80, widow of the late James Mutersbaugh, died at the home of her daughter , Mrs. Eliza Haag, 241 West Third Street, Saturday noon following a stroke. Mrs. Muthersbaugh was a former resident of Shelby for 50 years and was the oldest member of the United Brethren church there and a member of the Women's Benefit Association. She is survived by one son, William Mutersbaugh, and one daughter, Mrs. Haag. Funeral services will be held at the Dick and Dye funeral home in Shelby at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Muthersbaugh, Eliza J. -- DIED -- On Friday, July 28th., 1871, near Shelby, Mrs. ELIZA J. MUTHERSBAUGH, aged about 64 years. Mrs. Muthersbaugh was born in the State of Pennsylvania, July 2d., 1807, died July 28th., 1871. She embraced religion some twenty-eight years ago. In the Spring of 1866 she renewed her covenant with God, and united with the M.E. Church, Shelby, Ohio. Although deprived of the privilege of attending reglarly upon the public means of Grace, she still lived a consistent Christian, and maintained her communion with God. When the trying hour came, she was ready. She left a satisfactory evidence to her family and friends, that she now enjoyed the heavenly rest.
